Travellers between puberty and their early twenties are often more interested in meeting the opposite sex and partying than in actually sightseeing (especially if they are currently unattached). In this case, it's easy to understand how a change of venue every few days might provide variety, although I suspect the night life in Paris is far better than it is in Strasbourg.

For anyone else, I'd suggest that any side trips from Paris during a trip lasting only five days are probably a bad idea.

Hi S,

Have you considered skipping Paris and going to Strasbourg and other towns in France and Germany in the region?

Dijon is well worth 2 days.

Strasbourg is absolutely charming - but there's no way you can do it justice in a couple of hours.

Also - 5 days in Paris is few enough. Unless you've been there before Paris has enough to keep you busy for a week or two - still seeing major attractions.

(And when you do see Strasbourg you'll want to see the Cathedral, old town, Petite France, several museums and take a couple days to drive the wine road down to Colmar and back.)
