Is Spreewald worth a visit from Berlin?

We will be in Berlin for a week and are wondering if it is worth a day trip to Spreewald. We would go by train. Also, is it worth it to walk to the village of Lehde from there?

It's absolutely worth a day trip. My boat trip on the Spreewald was a wonderful experience, one of the most memorable of my 2009 trip to Germany and Austria. I recommend a boat trip on the canal. The boat (called a Kahn) is poled silently through the waterways by a "captain" who stands in the back, much like on a gondola in Venice.

The waterways/canals are lined with huge trees, often arching high above to forma sort of green tunnel. It's lush, lush, lush, peaceful, calm and mysterious.

At some time during the trip the Kahn stops at a restaurant within the Wald for lunch.

Do not forget an insect repellent (you can buy it in Berlin, of course).
