Is Soglio doable from Lake Como as a day trip?

Hello,

Just wondering if there was a way to get from Varenna to Soglio for a day trip without a car?

We will be spending 4 nights in Varenna and was looking for day trip suggestions --- or will we have plenty to do in the Como area?

Thanks for any help.

Nancy
Hi Nancy. I couldn't resist replying because I'm interested in both Varenna and Soglio. I went to my favorit SBB site for Swiss trains (sbb.com) and found that the quickest is 2:38 leaving Varenna at 10:55 and arriving in Soglio at 13:33 via trains and buses. There's a similar return that takes 3 hours leaving Soglio at 17:07 and getting back at 20:08. An earlier return takes 2:38 but doesn't give you much time in Soglio. I guess you'd have to love riding buses and trains with nice scenery to consider this. I'd be tempted, but I'm probably the only one. J.

Hello, Nancy & jw!

I also had a look at www.sbb.ch. The trains/buses are running different on Sundays.

You have to leave Varenna at 10:15 and arrive 13:33 in Soglio. But when you leave Soglio at 17:08 you arrive in Varenna already at 18:42! There is a direct train from Chiavenna to Varenna on Sundays.

I am sure you will love Soglio. Have a lunch in the restaurant of Palazzo Salis or a cafe in their garden.

Ingo

I just returned from Varenna and Soglio last month. Soglio is not to be missed for a day trip, will return there again.

Not to be missed is the view from the cemetary and the trail behind it to the next village...do not worry-the cows on the path are friendly...
