Is San Sebastian too rainy in May?
 

Thinking of staying there 2 weeks second half of May, but if it's raining the whole time, we might want to consider something else.

We were in Basque country last May and we had a week - 10 days of rain and very cool weather. This was the beginning to mid May. It got better later into the month, but we also started moving Southward at that point.

Rain is why it's called "Green Spain". But rain or not, San Sebastian-Donostia is always worth a visit.

May 2011, as Robert says that's why it's called la costa verde (sp?) In 2006 we took an Insight tour of Portugal and northern Spain including Santiago de Campostela, Bilbao, Oviedo etc. The weather was terrific in late May. Our guide (a native of San Sebastian) kept saying, "You don't know how lucky we are to have such fabulous weather." In any case, the beauty and uniqueness of the area (not to forget the food and wine) should compensate for any inclemency of weather.

San Sebastian-Donostia is NOT always worth a visit if you personally can't stand walking around in the rain. There is nothing to do indoors except eat, and you are unlikely to want to eat 24/7.

Some people think YOU shouldn't matter when you consider a destination. I disagree. YOU are taking this trip. There are plenty of places in sunny Spain worth visiting if you prefer to travel when and where your chances of getting dry weather are better than 1 in 3.

I agree with zeppole. The cool, sometimes cold, rainy weather definitely made a difference in our trip. it got pretty old walking around in dreary, rainy weather day after day.

It rained pretty hard in Southern Spain when we were there a few months ago, and for multiple days all day long, the kids were great about it, but I guess I wanted to what I was saying "yes". It says on the weather history that for May in SS to expect rain 16/31 days. But I didn't know if it is like Southern, Louisiana rain, or Vail, Colorado rain? That 30 minutes at 4:00 in the afternoon? Or is it morning to night deluge? Our earlier experience in Spain was morning to night deluge.
