Is Prague worth it?
 

I wrote the message titled "also first time to europe" and just wanted to aske if anyone thought that Prague was well worth your time. I've had friends tell me that out of London, Paris, and Prague, the later was their favorite. I've heard the city is absolutely beautiful and was just wondering what other's thought. I'm going to London with a group from my college for a class that we are taking in July. We are free to travel on our weekends (thurs-sun)and we were thinking of including Prague as one of our trips.

This is aboslutely one place you will want to fly, if you decide to go. We are hoping to go there in May for the first time, so I can't speak from firsthand experience. Was going to respond but then decided not to but can't cancel out so I'll respond.<BR><BR>To go to Prague for a long weekend in the summer while a college student studying in London? Hmmm - I wish I had these problems. But seriously - Prague is gorgeous- it really is a fairy tale city. And during the summer the night life should be going full blast.<BR><BR>

Prague is definitely an 'A' list city. For context my 'A' list includes:<BR><BR>Barcelona, Paris, London, Naples (but most people do not have an afinity for the city), Prague, Rome.

don't know what you are studying in school but Prague is one of the great walking around cities of Europe. It is no longer supercheap but not expensive. If you enjoy architecture, it has the greatest collection of Secessionist (Art Nouveau to some) buildings in Europe. great beer for peanuts!!! by all means go if you can.

Prague is indeed a beautiful city but you need to heed the advice about the taxi drivers, they are hell bent on riping you off. You need to aggresively negotiate the fare before stepping into the taxi, one guy even replied &quot;I'm not sure&quot; when I asked how much he wanted to bring me to my hotel, he expected me to get into the taxi so he could figure out the fare while he was driving me there - fat chance!

Yes Prague is worth it. <BR><BR>One item I would note about Prague was the constant effort by restaurants to over charge me. On several occasions, our waiter charged us for food we never ordered. <BR><BR>One meals overcharges were close to $20. I confronted the waiter and he insisted I was wrong. I basically had to badger him to get him to add it again. He finally did and hastily gave me my money back.

there are several phone call only taxi services-should be in any current guidebook- with English dispatchers. buy a cheap phone card in Prague because many public locations have card only phones. we had no overcharge problems with that system. as for bargaining or demanding a set cost - the traffic in downtown Prague is very unpredictable even out of their rush hour and nobody can reasonably predict all problems. the tram system is almost as direct as a taxi in most instances for the tourist.

For your 3-4 day weekends, I would suggest:<BR>Paris (fly or train)<BR>Amsterdam (fly)<BR>Prague (fly)<BR><BR>For a fourth weekend, if it is short, 2-3 days: Edinburgh (train), and if it is at least 4 days or longer: Rome (fly).

Prague
