Is Positano worth one day?
 

We have a short schedule due to a wedding in Siena. We have the option of going to Positano/Amalfi coast, but it is for a short time period. Essentially it will be arrival Saturday evening at 5:30; departure Monday mid-morning. We have no car, so it will rely on public transportation. Is it worth it or am I being too ambitious, as usual?

If your arrival is in Positano at 5:30pm yes and even in one day you can savour the fab Amalfi Coast by boat or thrilling bus.

But it's a long way from Siena to Positano - i'd consider the Cinque Terre so someplace closer to Siena

If you have always wanted to go then do it..There is a little shuttle bus that does a continuous loop from one side up to the other down..The evening is beautiful,the sunset the best..there's lots of shopping in the morning,taste test some lemoncello but mostly you need to walk around and see the views and the gardens.

Yes, totally worth it. You could spend the evening in Positano, then take the local bus down the coast and see Praiano or Ravello or both on Sunday. Have dinner at one of them and back to Positano. Or the reverse; a day and half is doable. You’ll love it.

Only if you have lots of time to catch your plane the next day. If that's not a problem then do it. You will want to come back for more though.

I think so.

Rather than taking up most of Saturday heading South and most of Monday going North, I suggest taking the train to Orvieto on Friday.

You can get over your jet lag, have a pleasant weekend and be in Siena in about 2 hr.

You could also stay in Rome and take the bus to Siena.
