Is Place Clichy nice/safe?

My sisters and I are staying at Hotel Place Clichy on rue de Douai. I'm paying 80 euro a night so I'm assuming the location and hotel isn't bad. However, I've heard mixed reviews about the area (seedy?) so now I'm thinking about cancelling my reservations and booking somewhere else. We're just there for a night before heading south. Has anyone stayed there before? Any input about the area?

I don't know the hotel itself or the rue Douai, though I can see it on my Atlas Par Arrondissement, but it's definitely not in an area of Paris I'd stay in. I don't think you'd need to worry about your safety, but I think seedy is a good description. For 80 euros there are plenty of better options.

Angel-

I wouldn't stay in this area. Look more in around the Ile de la Cite, around the 4th, 5th, 6th, that sound more like what you want. Many hotels for the same price, even cheaper. Try www.eurocheapo.com, good site, that's where I've found my hotels (cheap).

Travis - which hotel in particular would you reccommend? I took a look at that website and its great(!) I just don't know where to start!

Are you taking a train for your trip south? If so, you're probably leaving from Gare de Lyon, so I'd look for a hotel near la Bastille (#1 metro line Bastille>Gare du Lyon, or it's not that bad a walk) or in the Marais (#1 line goes through St Paul stop). You should be able to find something in your price range in either area.
