And the OP also has to go through security as all transfers at CDG involve re-screening of passengers even if the transfer is all within the same hall of the same terminal. CDG is set up so that arriving and departing passengers don't mix.

On the link I gave above, after inputting Genoa and Atlanta, on the next page, click on the right hand side tab that says "Transfer shuttle in restricted area" and that will give you instructions for the direct 2D to 2E shuttle.

Many thanks to everyone for the advice. Patty, I've printed out your detailed instructions for transfers - so very helpful. We'll give it a shot. And if we're not successful, we'll have an evening in Paris.

MarWolve,
If you haven't left yet, I just discovered that there's a mistake on the AF transfer site I posted a link to above. The 2D to 2E direct shuttle actually only operates until 1:30pm (not 1:30am as indicated on the site) so you won't be able to utilize it if arriving from Genoa at 3:00pm. Your best options is to walk to 2E and go through passport control and security at 2E. Depending on your departure gate, you may need also need to take the monorail from 2E main terminal to S3 (if you're departing from gates E51-E76). Hope you see this and good luck!
