mcburja,
You can try by choosing really "bad" times from the flight options you receive to get a long layover through Madrid, but it may not work. Have you tried the "multi-city option? Input YYZ-MAD, MAD-BCN, BCN-YYZ and see your results. |
I've flown open jaw using frequent flyer miles, so it can be done, at least on British Air.
And when you're calculating the cost of returning to your arrival airport, consider also that you're using part of your precious vacation time to backtrack, rather than see something new. |
Ellenem - yes - tried the multi-city option, but the price almost doubled that way.
Mimar - I take you point. However, we'll be travelling around a rough circle and returning to BCN anyway. That's why we thought that if we could spend a few more days in Madrid it would - at least in theory - be an inexpensive way to extend our vacation by a few days. |
Open jaw is not really multi-city as you described. Open jaw is flying in to one city and out of another (part of what you are trying to do). You are trying to add an additional flight for a total of three. You might find it cheaper to book a separate ticket on a budget airline between Madrid and Barcelona if you are wanting to spend a few days in Madrid. For budget airlines in Europe, try www.whichbudget.com and www.skyscanner.net.

Thanks, Kybourbon. Have just tried YYZ-MAD, then return BCN-YYZ - almost the same price, so I'm delighted. We've saved $1800 in airfare, which we can now spend on an extra four days in Spain. Now just have to figure out whether to drive, fly or AVE-it between Madrid and Barcelona.

Hi NT,
?Is open jaw flying more expensive? < Not usually. When you go to the website, click on "multy-city" ((I)) |
