I have a question on power plugs and sockets. Do I need US/Swiss Plug Adapter or I can use my US/European Plug adapter that I have used while traveling in Germany, France, Austria and other European countries?

Does your adapter come with the optional third pin like in the drawing below? Some adapters come with it. You just take it out if not needed or add it when necessary.

If not, just get a set of universal adapters for under $20. Good investment...they never go bad.

Switzerland is not a member of the European Union, nor the European Economic Area (and thus does not use the Euro currency)and even a standard European power plug is not good for Switzerland. What is wrong with Switzerland?
Thank you michele_d. No, my adapter doesn't come with the optional third pin. I'll buy a worldwide power adapter ($14.99) that allows access to power outlets when traveling in 150 countries.

Here is a good website showing all Plug & socket types:

It can be very useful for us, the world travelers.

We just came back from our trip to Europe. The last 13 days were "The best of Switzerland”. We did take into consideration your recommendations on how to make the trip more efficient. Thank you very much for that. Here is what we liked the most:
#1. Outstanding beauty of the Berner Oberland. Specifically, Lauterbrunner area where we lived, hike from Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg, a train to ride to Jungfraujoch, the Schilhorn by a cable car, hike from Murren to Gimmelwald.
#2. Luzern and trips from Luzern to Mt.Pilatus, Mt.Rigi, Bern and Murten.
#3. Hike from Chexbres to Rivaz downhill through the vineyards.
#4. Vevey, Montreux with Chateau de Chillon; Gruyeres.
Zurich was OK compared with other places (with an exception of Marc Chagall stained-glass windows at Fraumunster church); Nyon was a lovely town, and French medieval town Yvoire was lovely too, but overcrowded with tourists. There was not much to see in Geneva and not very much in Lausanne either.

Dianedancer, have a great trip!!! Switzerland is a beautiful country. We arrived home only 5 days ago and I'm already thinking of going back and explore parts of Switzerland we skipped.

Thanks for your feedback. It's always enlightening to hear someone's experiences.
Most Swiss haven't even been to many of the places you listed under "The Best of Switzerland" so it was interesting to hear your comments.
