Is Musee l'Orangerie open again?

It was closed for reno when I was in Paris, May '01, but was supposed to reopen late that year or early this year...but I've seen no mention of it on the mnany trip reports that have been filed in the past few months. Alos, does anyone know when the repainting of the Eiffel tower is to be complete, and if what I heard is true, that they're going to start doing the "twinkle lights" again for five minutes at the top of the hour once painting is complete? Not questions of crushing importance, I know, but would like to know...especially about lOrangerie. Thanks!

I'd be very interested to know if this can be confirmed by anyone who has been to Paris recently. I agree with you janis that the web page you cite sure makes it seem to be open. But as recently as May I had information that the re-opening had been pushed back to 2004, and several others agreed with me. However, I canot find right now what was my source for that.

Any one?

Best wishes,

Rex
Info on paris.org is ways out of date!!

The current edition of Pariscope (July 31-Aug 6, 2002) says the following:

<<Le musŽe de l'Orangerie est fermŽ pour travaux depuis le 1er janvier 2000 et pour une durŽe minimum de deux ans. Pariscope vous prŽviendra ds sa rŽouverture.>>

So far, nothing has been announced re. re-opening!

When I was in Paris a month ago it was definitely closed and it didn't seem like it would be opening in the near future. If it is open, I would be very surprised!

2004 seems to be the correct date.

http://www.rmn.fr/gb/02musees/01pres...orangerie.html

Wow - thanks everyone! It was of course closed when I was last there in October. But the last update on website lists the CURRENT EXHIBITIONS. Looks like a total fabrication.

Sorry for the confusion.

I can tell you it was closed and covered with scaffolding on July 3, when we went to investigate. It sure didn't look like it was going to open any time soon, and there was no one at the front desk to ask about when it might reopen.

Wat is the best other Monet museum while the Orangerie is closed?

BTilke Aug 3rd, 2002 11:24 PM

Your two best choices for seeing Impressionists (including Monet) are the Musee d'Orsay in the 7th and the Marmottan in the 16th.
