Is Milan an easy day trip from Venice?

We are having problems securing tickets to see The Last Supper on the day we are in Milan. So instead of freaking out over it I thought we might try an additional day trip from Venice. We will just go to the museum and if there are tickets available, great, if not we will just wander Milan and enjoy the day. Is a day trip from Venice pretty easy?
Thanks!

Sure if you don't mind a two and a half hour train ride each way, but you can leave early and come back late.

Look up the travel times via ferroviadellostato.it ..and then ask yourself the same question. I doubt seriously you will conclude the Milan is any day trip from Venice much less an "easy" one. You are looking at a minimum 5 hour RT train travel time. capisce?

Capisce.

And I'm sure you realize that the 5 hours is just actual train travel time. Add another 30-45 minutes or more at the Venice end to transfer between your hotel (Hotel Malibran? from your other thread) and wait for your train, and you can see that it will be a long day. You only have two full days in Venice as your schedule stands (arrive Oct 9, depart Oct 12, yes?). Stay in Venice.

yep, we will just skip The Last Supper this time and catch it on our next trip.
Thanks for the help!!

You can do so much in one day in Milan I go every year make sure you have a good map and walk it is not difficult as long as your good with following directions. From the station i would walk to the Corso buenos Aires (main shopping street) in a little side street stop for lunch and then make your way to the Duomo that will set you up for a good few hours and i would then catch a taxi back to the station. Make sure you click your ticket into the yellow box before you catch the train to have it validated otherwise your in Big trouble have fun. I go every year for two days to the shoe fair in Milan then go onto Florence for six weeks so know it very well

Many years ago my friend and I had trouble securing tickets to see "The Last Supper". Our hotel suggested booking a city tour that included tickets to "The Last Supper". Great advice as our tour leader gave a passionate description of the mural painting.

The shoe fair is Sept. 18-21, 2011, at the exhibition center (an additional 30-40 minutes from central Milan via the M1 metro line).
