I agree. The area is just fine, as are many of the outlying districts. That's the whole reason the metro exists.

I understand that it can be a bit daunting trying to find just the right place when you're not familiar with a city. And I agree that in many ways a hotel is a great idea for a first time visitor, but I think an apartment would work well also (especially for a 2 week stay). As long as you have a decent map when you get there and a good guide book, you'll be just fine.

There is no shortage of clean, budget hotels in Paris. Just as an example, here is a link to a place I stayed last year (budget, no frills, but clean, safe and decent location). http://www.myhotelinfrance-marais.com/index-en.php

Also, here are two of my favorite apartments...both within your price range, at least the last time I stayed in them. (I didn't see your original posts to know how many are traveling, but these are best for 1-2 people):

PalenQ, is The Vincennes actually the 20th district? Thanks for verifying the distance.

Thanks again Christina and perhaps the Deja vu is because I do have another thread, however I did acknowledge it when I said, "me again" in the opening of my post.

Thanks as well to Kerouac, Sidny, annhig, stormbird and all others!!!!

<< is The Vincennes actually the 20th district? >>

At least 2 people on this thread have already told you it's in the 20th arrondissement. If you don't believe us then google Rue De Lagny.

I saw that apartment and for 450€ a week that it appears to be you can get something much more central. Check out homelidays.com.....even centreparis.com which has some mixed reviews....

I would never pick a Champs Elysées hotel - waaaay boring part of town for the most part. You can be in the far more interesting areas for the same price (hotel I recommended is 90 euros for a single).

Hello All

I have reservations for March 23-29 @ Hotel Abbatial St Germain, 46 Blvd St Germain,75005
I got 3 nite deal for 116€ and the last 4 nites @ 121€. Though, this was a little more than I really wanted to pay I have seen the prices much higher on other dates @ this hotel. This hotel seemed to meet all of my needs and I am pleased.

Thanks to all of you for your help. I wouldn't have known where to begin without you. I am so glad I stumbled across this forum because i am not that savvy and knew nothing about Fodor's until recently. I am most grateful thar you took the time to answer me because I was like a deer in headlights.

Looking forward to a grand time in Paris. Oh, and one other small question, who is going to take pics of me while I frolic around Paris??? LOL

You have picked a perfect spot (I have seen others recommend the hotel). You are a short walk from the Seine, right by the two Islands, and so much more.

Let the planning and anticipation begin!

Thanks. I am soooo rushing the winter to come and go. Hoping it won't be too chilly/windy during the end of March. And of course I am still reading other threads but may have more questions before I leave. I am toooo excited!

Glad you found somewhere in the middle of what's going on! Between now and then you can take numerous "virtual" trips in your mind's eye.

You will be surprised how fast the time will fly.

Congratulations, that is a wonderful location. Near a metro station, the river, Notre Dame, the Cluny museum, Pantheon and more.
