Is late September too late for Brittany?

Some of the information I am reading suggests that by late September many places are starting to shut down in Brittany. I was hoping to avoid the summertime crowds but am now wondering if late September may be too late. For those of you who have been there, when is the best time to go, and do you think this would be too late.

Hi,
It depends a lot on what you hope to do. If you want to go to the beach, spend time in the seaside resorts and enjoy the sunshine, then yes it is a bit of a risk to go late in the season, especially as the weather may have turned. Some things like boat trips, beach side restaurants, campsites etc. may well have closed for the season, although other places may not close till October.
But if you plan to visit towns/villages and sightsee, then you should be OK. Life carries on as usual outside the tourist resorts! And the beaches remain open even outside the season, so if the weather is nice there's nothing to stop you enjoying the seaside.
Which part(s) of Brittany do you hope to visit?

We've been in October and found everything still open. Don't know about beaches as I'm not into them. The weather when we were there was glorious but you can't make promises.

What kinds of places/activities are you worried about being closed?

Late September should be fine. Most seasonal things in France close at the end of October.

Some of the beach resorts will be quiet, but not really closed down. In every other respect that I can think of, it's all systems go.

Thanks. I just didn't want that boarded up, closed down until next summer feel around the coast. I was thinking primarily of casual seafood restaurants and stalls in the coastal areas. Are there any folk festivals in September or are they mostly in summer?

Most of the apartment shutters will be closed.
