Is late October good for a honeymoon in the Amalfi coast?

We are planning our honeymoon for the Amalfi coast for October 20-25, but my fiancee is concerned that the weather will be a problem. What is the opinion of this group? Will the blue grotto be open?

Thanks!

The weather shouldn't be a "problem". You may encounter some brief rain showers, but the days will be pleasant, with very cool (not cold) evenings. Getting to the Blue Grotto may be difficult because they can't go if the sea is at all high or rough, and this time of year that may be the case more often than not. Having said all this, please be advised that some of the places will be closed down since the end of October is not "in season". Maybe other Fodorites have more experience with the Amalfi area this time of year than I have? Topping for more definitive responses.

I've learned from researching for an upcoming trip there a few days before you that the hotels that close for the season generally do so as of November 1. The odds for having rain in October are greater than say July, but I wouldn't want to be in Capri in July!

We were on the Amalfi in late Sept. of 1999. It was a bit muggy and warm. The scenery is so spectacular. We rented a car in Sorrento and drove all around for 4 days.
We also went to Capri. Very touristy. We will not go back there again.
Have you been to Venice? It is my favorite .If you get the chance. GO !!!
October is a fine time to visit the Amalfi Coast. You will have some showers, but they tend to happen in the mid afternoon, and only for a short while. The lemons aren't as big, but the scenery is still breathtaking........My friend who lives in Salerno says that May is the best month to visit. The flowers are is full bloom, orchids, etc...........

We honeymooned in Capri, Sorrento, and Venice last October. The weather was much warmer than we expected, 80's during the day. All our packing of sweaters and jackets went to waste. If you rent a car, make sure you go into the mountains above Positano into Ravello. That was our favorite place. Just a small town with a town square, a lot fewer tourists, and a lot of character, (and apparently money. We heard of some very big names buying property there.) We spent an afternoon there roaming the area and had dinner at one of the restaurants. If you are queasy about traveling winding roads, however, make sure you leave before night fall.

Thanks for all the advice. We're still a bit nervous about it, and so we are considering Sicily instead (Taormina sounds wonderful!) vs. Marrakesh vs. southern Spain. Decisions, decisions!

I have been in Venice -- but only with either a guy friend or with my dad. So I never could appreciate its romantic possibilities....
