Is Lake Como "visitable" in Nov?
Have never been to Lake Como and will be in the area in November... Just curious if it is worth visiting at that time of year or if everything will be closed... Which town is best (just for a brief overview)... Thanks!

They don't close the lake! If you are in the area and the weather is sunny, go to Bellagio to see the view. You will find hotels and other places open where you can have lunch.
Try to get the best information you can about the weather on the lake before heading out there. It can be sunny nearby, but foggy on the lake. While the lake is still lovely in the mist, heavy fog and rain can obscure the dramatic, stunning view that makes Lago di Como a world-famous destination. |
You might find that the villas are closed for visiting and maybe the ferry services are not as frequent, but as the previous poster says if the weather is sunny then GO. It is the most beautiful place. Definately worth a try.

The boats and ferries publish both their summer and winter schedules.
As to which town,I would think that the same basic rules aplly. The most convenient towns are the ones with the most frequent service - Varenna, Bellagio, Menaggio. Varenna is a small town. I read somewhere that their winter population is about 700. Bellagio is basically a tourist town. I imagine that in November, Bellagio will have a 'closed for the winter feel', but that might be fine. Menaggio is a bit of a trading/ shopping town and just might feel less closed than the other two. Be aware that most of the sights, villas etc are definitely closed by October 30th. |
You should not visit Lago di Como without spending at least 15 minutes in Bellagio. The town sits in a unique position on the lake that allow for an extremely deep view to its northern mountains.
