Well, I hate to admit this but when my friend first suggested to me that I travel outside the U.S. I had a bad attitude. I actually said, "I live in paradise, why should I go anywhere else." I even pointed out the tourist that flock to my city on a daily basis.
She was/is a good friend and convinced me to go and since then my attitude had a serious adjustment.

Must-sees for Paris: Sitting in a cafe, drinking wine (ahhh, Kir Royale), eating a crepe with chocolate, and people-watching. Don't try to pack too much in. Instead of regreting what you don't see, enjoy what you do have time to see.

I went to London a few years ago and did exactly that. Took the train through the chunnel to Paris for the day and my wife and I had a great time. Ran through the Louvre, crossed over to the musee d'orsay, walkd to the arch de triomphe, saw the Eiffel Tower, etc... You get just a taste, but maybe you can get back for the full meal another time. Do it, you'll regret it if you don't.

Just one comment on tours like those offered by ParisVision:

Paris needs to be seen close up and personal, not through a pane of tinted glass. Get a bus pass and arrange your own hop-on/hop-off itinerary - see http://tinyurl.com/ovpaw
- or buy a ride from l'Open Tour if you insist, but <u>don't</u> get on an enclosed bus. You might as well buy the DVD and skip the day trip altogether.

If you want a guided tour of Paris that is personalized and far more ooh- la-la than a bus, consider taking a tour in a classic Citroen convertible 2CV. You can see the main sights of Paris or go as far afield as Versailles or Giverny. Your (English speaking) driver doubles as guide.

Even though I've been to Paris more times than I can count, I'm thinking about taking one of these tours.A million times more fun than a bus and easier on the back and knees than a Segway.

I went to the UK with my mother in 2002, at the time we considered a day trip by eurostar to Paris and decided not to go. I regretted that decision of course. Now 4.5 years later, I am finally going again - hubby and I will be spending 4 nights in Paris and I can't wait. It isn't so easy to travel from NZ to Europe - the cost is so exhorbitant. We have made some sacrifices for our planned 5 weeks in Europe, such as not being able to update my car, lounge suite etc, but I have no regrets about this.
