<<I don't think USA Today even knows about Fodors.>>

For some reason, this statement brought back the memory of how I cam here in the first place. I read an article in USAtoday back in 1999 - - it was about how certain websites were functioning to help would-be fellow travelers get acquainted to plan small group trips. I don't think that Fodors was mentioned (or if it was, it didn't resonate with me) - - but for sure LonelyPlanet ThornTree was. I went there and I was quickly hooked. I got to "know" Ben Haines, and he suggested that I might like Fodors Travel Talk. That was almost 8000 posts ago for me.

I have still gone to LPTT, maybe once a year over time. It just doesn't hold the same appeal, for me.

This may not be the best site to find general info on Atlanta, but if you want to find a moderately priced hotel in the western suburbs of Atlanta which is appropriate for a family of five and which has a restaurant that serves a good buffet breakfast, this is the place to get good recommendations.

Great replies!

Thanks.

I just wish "we" could have a travel forum that IS recognized by even good ole USA Today.

That "we" have some issues with this forum ourselves is some knowledge that possibly our "travel-dimonds" may be TOO buried in the rough and tough "travel" talk.

I have not ONE travel friend or foe who comes to this board and STAYS.

Advertisers have to be so "in-our-face" here(pop-ups or roll overs) you just wonder if that is the one way that they barter to be here too...

That any staff or intern at USA Today could not find "the best" or "good enough" info. on Atlanta is IMHO a shame.

I am not Mr.or Mrs. Fodor but in business that would not be "ok" by me.

Now, back to my to my Fodor Poster soap box...

"We" berate newbies and then turn on old timers when the mood or topic strikes...guess that would be that personality thing discussed on another thread...

I know, we get and give good to great travel and travel related information and obviously I get something of value from the site or I would not be here.

So, after much discussions and reading I list my reasons why Fodors did not get on the list:

1) This site is not easy to navigate if you are new. Rex and others have made excellent suggestions to spare newbies from being "yelled" at and so on.

2) Deleted post and blocked posters appear to be arbitrary. Some post contain profanity, anatomy and attacks and they remain on board. Some post that have none of the above are deleted.
The post about London that was chocked full of info. is an example of a whole thread deleted that was "travel-excellent."

3)The "Other" category should be utilized by the folks who run these boards. If a topic is "other" then a staff person should keep the heading on the original board but the first message should read: "We have moved this discussion to the Other thread."

4) Travel Packing, fashion, style, shoes, luggage, tote bags and all that should have it's own board. Other travel boards do that and are successful at it.

Ok, so, that is my short list.

With that said, I believe a magazine, e-newsletter, tv show and all that are distant ventures. Let's work to fix what we "have" first.

My Best,

Maybe it's because Gannett (USA Today) and Bertelsmann (Fodors) compete in some arenas. Or maybe not. Hmmm.

Gardyloo:

The latest on why "we" got skipped:

A "survey" showed that many travelers go to the other forums listed. If that changes then...

Oh well...

The place for these is "Other topics," but not many people choose it.
