Is it safe to drive in Andalucia ?

I need suggestions about driving in Andalucia. Everyone says "never leave any valuables in the car". What shall I do driving from Gibraltar to Sevilla, passing the Pueblo Bianco ? Can I stop and enjoy the view, walk around a little with all my luggages in the car ? Thanks.

I think that anyplace you go in the world you probably shouldn't leave valuables in sight in a car that unattended. Keep them locked in your trunk. I don't think Spain is any different than most places with this.

As far as actual safety of driving in Andalucia--we had no problem (although the truck drivers seemed a bit more agressive than some places and the road to Ronda was a steep and narrow.)

Hope this helps.

Hi Cynthia,

We just returned from a trip to Andalucia and had no problems. Just make sure your car has a trunk (most of them do), and you won't have any worries. We left our luggage in the trunk for hours without any problems. Just use common sense.

AsAnnie said use common sense.
We haven´t find any problem traveling by car in Andalucia, ....
Do not leave the car in desolated places , bettter to leave it where there are people around passing by.
We drove through Andalucia in March 2003. In the big cities and touristy areas we missed some important sights because we did not dare leave our car with the trunk full of luggage. But in the less touristy small places we took our chances.

When we go again, we will take public transit to the Granada, Sevilla and Cordoba (driving in Sevilla is hell!) and then rent a car to tour the countryside.

I suggest you get a car without any rental company signs on it.

Buy a local newspaper and leave it - and nothing else - on the seat.

If you have to open the trunk for any reason, then you must move the car before parking it.
