Is it really necessary to reserve a ticket for the Orangerie well in advance?

palette, We were at the Orangerie two weeks ago and did not reserve a ticket. We used our 4 day museum pass so were able to avoid the short ticket line. On the Wednesday we were there it was going to close early, at 4pm which we were not aware of before arriving.
There will probably be a major difference in crowds between a day in February and a day in April or May, however

Interestingly, the lines we experienced at the various museums in February were the result of not ticket sales but security. The longest and slowest line was at the Musee Cluny which is one of the trial "free museums" in Paris. They still have to issue and print everyone an entrance ticket even though it's free admission. Just a FYI
