Is it really 100 degrees F. in Paris???
 

I didn't think it got that hot there. Having stayed in old buildings with no AC when it was 75-80 F, I just can't imagine the same at 100 F.

yes, of course the weather reports are correct. It can get that hot there as well in other parts of northern Europe, including Germany. It certainly was in 2003 in various countries. I've been there several times when it was that hot in summer, although it isn't common. After all, it can get 100 in NYC, also, and has before. It's even been over 100 in Boston, although rare.

It is 31 C there right now. It will be 40C there on Friday and Saturday. Same through much of northern Europe, and southern UK.
The Tour de France starts on Saturday in Utrecht - they are talking of 42C there with it feeling more like 45C. Free water available for the crowds.
Me? No I'm not going. I am staying indoors with the blinds closed and the ceiling fans on.

This summer is due to be the hottest on record, with June temperatures already exceeding 37C in many places. Right now it is hotter in Pamplona then it is in Sevilla, which will be up to 41C by Sunday. Just wait til Auguust when it gets really warm.

Here in Istanbul the forecast is 25C every day through the weekend. Hotel prices are great, too.

Mittel Franken reporting in. We're bracing for 94 on Friday and 96 on Saturday. And no A/C. The struggle is real.

Due to be 35C in London tomorrow and already today was hotter than Honolulu.

Bugger the AC and just have plenty of ice cream :-)

Were you alive in 2003? Y'know, when 10,000 French residents died from heat conditions in August?

It's not like France has never had a heat wave.

Big Russ - Yup, and yet will they still leave their grandmas in their hot apartments to die while they go on the sacred August vacation?

I love the way that everybody always points at France for the 2003 heat wave. Luxembourg was the country with the highest death rate per capita, followed by Italy. I guess people think it is normal for people to die from the heat in Italy, and Luxembourg just doesn't count.

It can be very hot in Paris even if not the worst of summers. I have been several times in July and it hit 90 for at least one day very time we were there - and SO happy to have hotels with good AC.

And it is going to be about 86 degrees in Munich later this week where, "air conditioning is not needed."

I am fine at home in Paris although I no longer have air conditioning (my unit died 3 years ago because it was not used enough -- only about 3 days a year). I just take off my clothes.

Is this not possible for some of you?

It won't be humid so there's that.

Reporting in from Southwest France--HOT!!

Yesterday and today we closed all the wood shutters, had the fans going, not too bad. We just opened the house as it cools down quite a bit at night, thankfully!

Little concerned about Friday and Saturday but we'll just take it slow. Checked on our 84-year old neighbor he's fine, his ground level is as cool as a cave.

Hot or not---I'd rather be in Paris!

Taking your clothes off just means you'll leave lots if pools of sweat on your linens, furniture and floor. Watch out for slipping!
