of course you can, although I don't think Autoeurope has the cheapest rates for this. I got very good quotes from www.carjet.com for that. Also check www.kasbah.com

Be careful with kasbah.com. They will tell you that there is an automatic available, with a cheap rate. When you go through with the reservation, that is when they actually look if the destination has one available - and lots of them don't. I ended up going with Hertz. They can guarantee the automatic, even if it is a little bigger of a car.

Agreed--driving in a foreign country is stressful enough without trying to learn how to shift. Several companies rent automatics, but make sure you specify that in advance as they don't have very many. On the other hand, we've sometimes been upgraded to bigger cars because we demanded an automatic and we had clearly specified it in the reservation.

My post was obviously tongue in cheek, but I cannot believe anyone other than big city high school dropout car thieves cannot drive 5 or now 6 sp man trans cars - some protection there.

I fail to see the humor in your post, mikemo, didn't come across. Being in a foreign country is hardly the place to learn to drive a manual.
I can sort of drive one but don't usually, and don't care to, so would never rent one on vacation. I don't get your reference to high school dropouts, what's that got to do with it. I am quite highly educated and am not particularly interested in cars or machinery. It's a machine, get over it. Manually shifting gears when AT was invented eons ago does not make you a superior being.
