Is it long distance to telephone between the Greek Islands?

Let's say I am in Crete...is it long distance to Santorini?
If I'm in Santorini...is it long distance to Mykonos or Athens?

Hi Karen,
it's me again :-)!
It's a bit complicated to explain to you, because nobody really understands the Greek telephone system ;-)
It's not long distance, but it isn't a local call either.

Check this out:
From Web site
http://www.ote.gr/english/tariffs/telephony_1-4-2.htm

Note:
1 unit is 7 drs net (I think plus 18% taxes)

4 Call charges
4.1 Local call charges
From a Digital Telephone Line
--Full rate (from 08.00h - 22.00h daily) ... 1 pulse/1 min
--Reduced rate (from 22.00h - 08.00h daily)) ... 1 pulse/2 minutes
One pulse corresponds to one tariff unit (T.U.).
From an Analog Telephone Line
--Per call 1 T.U.
Full rate periods are: From 08.00 to 22.00
Reduced rate periods are: 22.00 to Monday 08.00
4.2 Trunk call charges
Trunk call charges are applied to all subscribers as follows:
Distance between Nodal exchanges (at clow's flight in Km) Time pulse for 1 T.U.
Full rate Reduced rate
up to 45 Km (Zone I) 60 sec (30 sec) 120 sec (60 sec)
45-80 Km (Zone II) 9,33 sec (8 sec) 11,83 sec (9,47 sec)
over 80 Km (Zone III) 6,77 sec (4,5 sec) 8,61 sec (5,54 sec)

It won't cost you a fortune.
Greetings,
Martina
www.paros-online.com
Oh my God, Martina, I hope I don't have to use a phone while I'm in Greece this summer. It sounds more complicated than their ferry system, and their alphabet all rolled into one!!

The telephoning itself isn't that complicated... ;-))
Just buy a phone card, find a telephone, and phone!!!
:-) Martina

Where do you buy a phone card?
Do the pay phones not take coins?

Still confused....
Hi Karen,
I wouldn't worry about too many things. Greece is pretty much like other countries too and when you arrive you'll find out easily.

Phone cards are available almost everywhere. Usually people buy them at the little kiosks that you find on every corner and that are open most of the time, also in tourist shops, supermarkets (often), post offices etc.! The cardphones you find every few metres!!!! There are no coin phones. The cheapest phone card costs 1.000 Drs (the next one I don't know at them moment, I think around 1.700 Drs)!

Greetings and a Happy Easter to you,
Martina
