Is it good to choose staying in appartments?
We're going to Czech in May. Some tour agency offered us appartments. They look quite nice (w/ the photos). But I'm not sure if it's OK to choose this kind of staying. Would someone please advise if it's good to stay in appartments?

What're the good sides and down sides of it?

Hi Milly! I think there are distinct advantages / disadvantages of staying in apartments rather than hotels. These come from my experiences with both.

Advantages: save a bit of money by having a refrigerator and eating picnic breakfast and a meal here and there... can take less clothes with access to a washing machine...sometimes cheaper than hotels...incorporates you more into local life

Disadvantages: you may not be familiar with local appliances, heating, water, etc. and how they work...no hotel receptionist or concerierge to rely on for help with directions, arranging things, etc...might miss the conveniences that hotels can offer, like money changing, room service, pool, discounts and local literature.

I hope that helps you!

Anastasia
http://www.greatbritaintravelguide.com

Hi Milly! I stayed in an apartment in Prague and really enjoyed it. The advantages were having a place to cook and save some money. The disadvantages were having to share the apartment with the woman (and her baby) who owned the place and it not being quite as close to the old town (where we wanted to focus our energies) as some of the more expensive hotels. I also stayed in an apartment in Portugal (Lagos) and loved it. It was a private apt this time and had a living room and kitchen, patio, etc... It was cheaper and had more privacy than the hotels we looked into. It was also in a good location. Again, we cooked in often and saved money, and also greatly enjoyed the privacy after spending so much time in hotels and hostels. Laura

Stayed in apartment in Scotland and it was a great way to do it. Just like when we take a vacation at the beach, we rent an apartment rather than stay at a motel.

Are you staying a week in one location as most rent week to week. Are you content to stay in that place for that long.

Be sure to have all the appliances explained. Our place in Scotland had a combination Washer/dryer (one unit - not two like in USA) and we never did quite figure it out. Also odd was that the electricity was metered and paid for in additon to the rent.

Hi,

I went to Prague three times. Every time I stayed in an appartment. the first one was the best, no down sides at all. Just benefits: you can cook if you want too, but you can find enough restaurants were the food is cheap and good. This appartment offered more comfort then a hotelroom. The second time I end up in a room at a familyhome. Down side: lack of privacy. In third appartment the kitchen was very small. My advise is just ask at the tour agency what the appartment looks like.
Hope this helps you, bye
