Is it easy to explore the Colmar region without a car?

We're planning to arrive by train and see Colmar and these little towns:

Ribeauvillé
Riquewihr
Kaysersberg
Turckheim
Eguisheim

There seems to be bus service between Colmar and Turckheim but I don't read french so I don't understand how convenient the service is between the other towns and Colmar. I'm hoping we can hop on a bus and be in the next town in 20 minutes.

I don't have the bus schedule, but in general in rural France bus schedules are not geared to tourists. They are geared toward getting locals to shopping centers, doctor's appointments, etc. If you post the schedule, those of us who read French might be able to help more.

I don't think your problem will be how long it takes to get to the next village - I think it will be how ften the buses run. And in rural France that is likely to be not too often. If you're asking if you can see Colmar and all of those towns in one day? - the answer is no. (We toured the area by car and you could;t do it that way either.)

Are you talking about using Colmar as a base ad taking the buses out to visit one town per day - that sounds very doable.

Hi EF,

There is a bus that will take you from Colmar to Kaysersberg. You will be able to walk from Kaysersberg through Kientzheim to Riquewihr.

That takes care of a day.

From what I saw when I was there a couple of times is that the buses that serve the small towns are there to take people to and from work and kids to and from school.

You might wish to consider renting a car.

I wonder if it's worth the trouble of renting a car just for two days.
