Is Iceland worth it for 24 hours?
Hi-am considering a stopover in Reykjavik en route to London, but would barely have 24 hours. I have always wanted to go though and figure I can at least walk around the city. Anyone done this? Was it worth it? Think I'll arive a jetlagged mess in London...

That's time to take the Golden Circle tour. Walking around the city is probably not worth it. The tour is long, though. You may end up snoozing on the bus. Then you have the evening to take a walk and have dinner before a much needed sleep.

I think it is worth it. If you are flying IcelandAir-doesn't everyone?? they also have the concession for tours that allow you to take your luggage with you on the tour bus and drop you at the airport. Iceland was a wonderful surprise for us and we will return for a longer stay the next time. We were there a quick 3 days. Deborah

A few years ago, I did and was very happy for it.
The airport is in Keflavik - which is about 30 min or so from Reykjavik. We stayed at the Northlight Inn http://www.northernlightinn.is/index.htm which was not fancy, but fine and the people were so incredibly kind. The nicest I have met in my travels anywhere! So, they picked us up at the airport and took us to the hotel which is right by the big tourist site - The Blue Lagoon! This was really fun and I totally enjoyed it! I think it is the largest natural springs.. and the topography of Iceland is just amazing. Anyway, next day they took us into Reykjavik - the nice lady there was going anyway, so was happy for us to come along. She dropped us at the bus station, so we could leave our luggage and explore Reykjavik for a couple hours. The bus was very convenient for getting back to Keflavik. Anyway, so that's another option for you. Good luck! |
Definitely do the Golden Circle tour. It's totally worth it and you will see so much and feel you've put good use to your 24 hours. There's not much to see in Reykjavik, although it's a nice city, but if you ever go back to Iceland to see more (which you'd want to after the Golden Circle tour), you can spend time seeing Reykjavik.
The Blue Lagoon is nice too - if you are overnighting in Iceland and have a full day, then you can do the Golden Circle in the morning and go to the Blue Lagoon in the evening. It's very relaxing and unique. Enjoy! |
