I've read great things about Hotel Casci in Florence in guidebooks and on this forum, but most of the comments relate to the great location & price. The Hotel Europa is across the street from Casci, is also 2-star, & is $25 less per night. Which hotel would you pick & why?

I do not know anything about the Europa...but we did stay at the Casci and the staff alone is worth paying extra for! They were truly wonderful.

I'm also a fan of hotel Casci but I can tell you there was an article in the travel section of the MY Times several months ago about FLorence, that spoke very highly of the Europa. The writer had made a reservation at the Casci via email. There apparently was a computer glitch and the reservation was lost. When she arrived at the Casci, they were very apologetic but also were full. They set her up with a room at the Europa, also run by a friendly family. She loved the hotel. I beleive the Europa is across the street from the Casci. Sounds like either hotel would work fine.
