aneckc, Barbara, Polar_Bear,

Thank you very much for kind words regarding the photo gallery. I'd like to take credit for them, but I gotta say, one would have to work hard to take a bad photograph in Greece.

Regards, Bruce

Yes, yes, there is beauty in Greece...blue waters, white houses, rocky shorelines, historic sights,. serene temples. There is an Aegean brilliance it seems to me.

Of course, when you say Greece you must take into account the geographical variety. I do believe in Rhodes one finds beauty atop Acra Rhodes and in Heraklion how about the harbor and the wonderful archeological museum as noteworthy. Also in Crete of course Hanlia and the Kazanzaki memorial (don't have town in mind).

Bruce, beautiful photos. Don't be modest...I've seen some not so great photos of Greece (some of them my own!) Yours are wonderful. Loved your other albums too.

Bruce - Just viewed your photos. They were absolutely amazing. What talent you have. I loved all the shots picking up the different light (sunrise, sunset, etc). I went to Dubrovnik a million years ago, I loved it then and your photos make me want to go back. In fact, I would like to go everywhere you photographed especially Greece!
Your American Southwest pictures were gorgeous. I especially loved the Antelope Canyon ones. I am guessing that Antelope Canyon is around Bryce National Park.

Thank you, paula1470.

Antelope Canyon is just outside of Page, Arizona, at the border with Utah. Fantastic area.

In danger of turning this thread into a Bruce fest, but those photographs are little short of amazing. They literally brought a lump to my throat. PLEASE tell us you area professional and that that talent isn't just derived from a "hobby".

Greece is stunning; as others have said there is almost infinite variety in that beauty. The only place I've seen haze in a number of visits, is Athens, and that's the remanants of the famous smog- which is hugely better than it was 20 years ago.

I agree with other people's assesments of visiting time- although we have been in October to the South of Crete and it was still pretty wonderful.

Lesvos in spring was alive with flowers. the land is so unpolluted- at least away from the tourism spoil heaps that flowers burst from every patch of earth.

I can't speak for Rhodes, but Crete- away from Iraklion, Malia and Heronissos is stunning, friendly, Greek and more like heaven than hell.

Bruce- Thanks for the reply about Antelope Canyon. Is it accessible by foot or only from Lake Powell? I might be heading up that way sometime next year so just wondered.

paula, if you go to the US forum, there is a lot of info about Antelope Canyon, as there are often questions about it.

Thank you, Sheila. Yes, a hobby only.

But a serious one.

Barbara-Thanks, I will look on the US forum. Guess I got a little off the topic of Greece, it's just that Bruce's pictures of Antelope Canyon were so beautiful.

Message: Is Greece as beautiful as it seemed at the Olympics? ...Are the people as friendly as reported?
I am not telling you as I spent my money to find out (not really)
You HAVE to go yourself and find out...

Come back and tell us the truth!!!

I visited Greece this summer, just before the Olympics, and my experience was simply wonderful. The natural beauty of the country (especially the island of Corfu) is breath-taking, even if it can be rocky--the mountainous background is still majestic. In addition, I think the nature of the people make the scenery that much more spectacular. I rarely had a dinner that lasted under an hour and a half because the waiters/waitresses struck up such interesting conversation--the same goes with shopkeepers.
As for those that said the islands weren't beautiful or lush and green, that is true on some, but Corfu is lush, green and filled surrounded by brilliant blue waters and tree covered mountains. In short, I loved Greece!
