Peter, I just noticed that your original note was in May. Has the honeymoon come and gone? I love Germany and would like to hear if you and your wife found some special places of your own.

Having been stationed in Germany for 13 months in the early 70's and visited twice (1998 and 2000) I would go back tomorrow if the budget permitted! The scenery, historic sites, etc are well worth the time. And, the people could not have been nicer. I am sure part of that reflected my attitude and for sure wearing a smile and using local greetings, etc. Some of the best times we had were when we got off the beaten path a bit away from the "touristy" areas. Go!

In 1978, I agreed to a trip to Germany to appease my husband ( I wanted to go to the Caribbean). We planned 2 weeks, rented a car,and flew to Frankfurt. I was miserable....all I could think of was that I would have to eat sauerkraut and sausage for these 2 weeks. My first nite I had a great dinner near Heidelburg so I decided that I could stand it another day.The next day we had more great food and lots of fun driving around as we headed south towards Munich. By about the 4th day, I was in love with the country. Since then we have been fortunate enough to go back almost yearly and we have become avid hikers in and around the areas of Berchtesgaden. I am very glad that we made that first trip and I hope your experience is just as good!!

We have a conference in Berlin this Fall. We are beginning to plan an itinerary for a week or 10 days ahead of the conference. We will see alot of Berlin with the conference, so are thinking of where to go before hand. Would an auto trip from Hamburg to Berlin be worthwhile? Any other suggestions?

Germany has it all!! <BR><BR>Berlin and Munich are both wonderful cities. Full of many interesting places to see and experience.<BR><BR>The villages south of Munich are wonderfully romantic places. Oberammergau and Garmisch-Partenkirchen are my favorites.

Yes, for those who are questioning a trip there, I say YES - without a doubt. We spent a couple of weeks there this summer. We loved driving thr. little hamlets ans seeing some of the most gorgeous scenery and "old' architecture. We loved all the castles we saw. An earlier poster said there is no historical architecture etc..well what is a 13th century castle?<BR>The Black Forest is breath taking, the Mosel wine country is outstanding, We loved Bavaria. The people are so nice and the food is fabulous. I loved Meersburg on the Bodensee. <BR>Hope you had a great time!!!!!!!

Hi Peter,<BR>this is a late answer, but Germany is worth a trip. But honestly, why choose Germany for honeymoon. I think, no doubt you will find a lot of culture and food and a fantastic infrastructure around here, also it is not so expensive. But no one will give you a sunshine guarantee for honeymooners.<BR>Expect to always wanted to stay in an original castle - than we may got what you need.<BR>More infos needed ? For your information: Romantic Road is not about a Roman Road but really about being romantic (love). <BR><BR>Germany is a very interesting country with a lot of historic buildings and interesting regions. My favourite city is Munich and also the south of Germany for natural beauty, nice little towns, the castles. The Rhine area is also interesting. <BR><BR>People might seem a bit unfriendly sometimes, but if you have a few more words with some people you will find that many are friendly and helpful.
