Ummm, this thread is 7 years old, and a LOT has changed in that time. "Silk" is correct about Prague. The streets are safe. Public transit can be the place where people target you. I've walked all over Prague & Bratislava alone at late hours. I've done this on 11 trips, and have always been fine. I've even talked to "strange" people, on occasion, and have had beers with them.
Of course, there are Fodorites who will tell you that Eastern Europe does not include these places, but then why are people who live in Prague responding to the thread...?! ((?)) |
Geography Fun. What is Europe? 20 degrees West to 60 Degrees East. Iceland, Ireland and Spain on the West and the Urals of Russia on the East. Eastern Europe can begin in Warszawa, or we can have a Central Europe beginning in Berlin and ending in Moscow. Many English people consider anything West of Paris Eastern Europe!

Oh how we miss Ben Haines.

Don't talk to me about South of Calais!
doing nothing is not safe I see that 11k people in the UK go to hospital due to trampolines a year. Dress down, put the bling out of sight, keep your baggage small and with you. recognise loonies exist in every country and it will be just like at home (tell me is it safe where you live?). Don't hang out by the dead entrances of railway stations at 2 in the morning and finally if your subconsious says something is wrong it is. |
We were mugged in Barcelona and
our friends were mugged in Long Beach, Ca. I would not be the least bit apprehensive about back to Barcelona. It happens in every country in the world. When we were in Hungary, the girl that we were renting an apt from picked us up at the airport. She had a big lock on her steering wheel. At the apt, she put it on again. Car theft is a big probem in Budapest. Don't know about the rest of Hungary. |
When I was in Prague a couple of weeks ago, a few of my friends got things stolen at a night club, but I can't help but think it might have had a lot to do with the fact that they were drinking and not paying attention. I didn't have any problems, except with the taxis. The drivers were very shady. It cost me 120 crowns to get to the club, and then it cost 560 to get back.
Other than that, everything was fine. I would just suggest taking the train instead of taxis if possible |
April: 560 crowns to get back???!!! That's how much it costs to go to the airport! Where were you staying?
