Is Croatia too crazy in August?
I'm living in Egypt & thinking about escaping the heat in August. Is Croatia (both Dubrovnik and islands) way too crowded with tourists in August? I usually don't go places during July & August because of the crowds. I also like to go places when tourism has taken a hit (Paris during the official Iraqi war, Egypt when Americans think that there is roadside bombing on a daily basis in Cairo, etc.)
If Croatia is too crowded, can you suggest another place in that area that might not so crowded and might be fairly inexpensive?
Thanks.

School starts some time after 1.9., yes italians go home and the weather might get a little less warm which is fine with me, August is waaay too hot. So all croatians who live inlands and have so called "weekend houses" at the coast go home to work and school. Adriatic in September is mostly german geriatrics. Again that s fine with me , I hate crowds!

It is quite busy in the coastal areas in August. Many Italians travel to Croatia for vacation in August so it would be very hectic. You might try the Slovenia coast (Piran) but I believe that too is very busy in August.
