Is business class really that much better than coach?

I definitely think it is worth it to upgrade on virtually any airline for an international flight. Bigger seats, more legroom, better service, more baggage allowance, lounge access, better air quality, smoother ride, faster access to customs and baggage. Unless you have an enormous number of miles, it's probably better to upgrade, rather than burn all the miles on a biz class ticket, because you will earn miles on the purchased ticket. So although you may use 50,000 miles, you might still earn 10-15000 miles on an int'l flight.

Wow, I didn't realize I would get so many replies to my question! Thanks so much for the responses! And for those that asked, my miles are with American Airlines and I fly out of St. Louis, although flights to Europe almost always have a layover on the east coast. We won't be traveling to Europe again until next year (unfortunately!) so the trip is a ways away; I was just trying to get some opinions. I don't sleep very good in coach because I can't seem to get comfortable enough. I will fall asleep, but I'll wake up because of my uncomfortness. My husband has no problems flying but he doesn't sleep either so he just grins and bares it. Of course, he is also the person who can sleep for half-hour on a 9 hour flight, arrive in Europe, and be ready to sightsee all day! Unfortunately that isn't me. Even the excitement of Europe can't seem to shake me out jetlag. I thought that maybe the extra room on BC would, at the very least, offer a much more relaxed and comfortable flight over and I would (hopefully) feel a little more energized and a little less sore upon landing.
Thanks again for all the replies!
