Is BOLOGNA an easy day trip from FLORENCE?
It seems to be about an hour by car (accord. to mapquest), but can anyone that has taken the train or bus please comment on the ease or difficulty of doing this??
thanks!! dina |
One hour by train, many trains per day.

I've taken the train. It's a short trip (about an hour, as toscoman said) and very easy. It's about a 30-minute walk from the train station to the town center as I remember.

great.
thanks! |
Train is much better. Getting in and out from Florence and Bologna by car can be a pain in the neck, because of traffic.
|
My experience was that th emain piazza was 10-15 minutes from the train station. I guess it depends on your speed. As others have said, train is fast, easy, and painless.

Thanks for the tips, everyone. Train seems the easier way to go.

Yup. You might find the Bologna part of my trip report helpful: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34451044 ((I)) |
It depends on the train you take. Check prices at trenitalia.com.

A one-way 2nd class ticket from Florence to Bologna on an Eurostar train should cost around 15 euros. You don't need first class on Eurostars, since seats are all reserved and numbered.
A ride on an Intercity train costs about 3-4 euro less, but trains are less comfortable. |
<<15 euro one way>>
gee, that can get really pricey if you're paying round trip for 4. i'll check out the website. Ira --thanks for your report link. That's the sort of "day trip" i had in mind. your description of the food made my mouth water... dina |
There are a few IC trains that take a little longer. For them the price is 11.50 euro 2nd class, 15 euro 1st class.
