Is Blurberry cheaper in Italy or Paris

Hi,

Anyone bought blurberry from Italy/Paris?

where is cheaper?

avalon Jun 25th, 2008 01:56 AM

If you mean Burberry, you are nor going to find it cheap anywhere in Europe. Try an outlet center in the USA. My raincoat was going to cost $500.00 in London and I got the same coat here in Orlando for $140.00

Um, try Las Vegas. I got a $1,100 purse at the Burberry Forum shop for $550 after Christmas this year.

I am headed to Bon Marche in Paris today and will post if Burberry is marked down during the annual "soldes". These sales occur in late June/early July and then in January. That's about the only time you can get a deal on Burberry in Paris.

The sales in France started today and will run for 6 weeks.

I agree - look at the US stores first (where are you?). I have found $250 mens shirts for $130 in the Washington, DC store.

It seems that Burberry is now made in China like most other article of clothing and accessories. How in the world can they justify the high prices? I looked at a Burberry coat last winter which was actually pretty cheaply made but the price was around $800 - the mass market brands hanging in the same department were actually made of better material and put together better for a fraction of the price. Seems like you pay maybe $100 for the coat and $700 for the name. I think it is silly.

I apologize, I didn't mean to post my response yet - but here's the continuation:
It is also common for a garment manufacturer anywhere (but especially in Asia) to manufacture several brands in their factory - Burberry and Gap coats/jackets for example.

All I'm saying is that the manufacturer in China or anywhere in Asia are not entirely to blame. It would not be fair to them if we do so.

camias Jun 25th, 2008 10:16 AM

Oh I guess I totally lost it.

This is the actual first part:

Regardless of where a garment is manufactured, the brandholder (Burberry in this case) supplies the raw materials with the exception probably of threads and zippers if they don't carry the Burberry name on them.

Quality is also ultimately controlled by the company (Burberry) in a sense that normally, a team of corporate qaulity control personnel will visit the factory and check the quality of the garments themselves.

If you watch the Wall street journal they often have a comparison of prices for items world wide. esp. luxury items. New York is always the cheapest price for the item even if it manufactured in England, France and so forth. We found that our outlet sources are better than any price in Europe. Sorry you will find NO Bargains!

ekscrunchy Jun 25th, 2008 12:35 PM

That last is most certainly not true although the poor dollar exchange rate may make bargains few and far between nowdays, there are still many items that are cheaper in Europe, and many items that you will not find in US outlet stores.

ON the subject of who manufactures luxury items and where they are manufactured ( you might be surprised) I recommend this book:

With the dollar being so weak, I'll say it is way easier to find a bargain here in the states than in Europe. All the major dept. stores (Neiman Marcus, Saks, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, etc..) are now have their second markdowns. There are plenty of bargains to be found stateside.

aquascrotum is much classier.

BTilke Jun 25th, 2008 01:37 PM

Is cge American? I didn't see any note of that on his/her posts. If not, the strength of the (U.S.) dollar might not have any impact on the OP's shopping decisions.

travelgourmet Jun 25th, 2008 02:48 PM

there are still many items that are cheaper in Europe, and many items that you will not find in US outlet stores.

Such as? I can't think of many (or really any) international-brand items that are cheaper in Europe than in the US. There may be certain, limited production items that are more expensive in the US strictly because of weak distribution, but you and I both know that Burberry doesn't fit that profile.

Of course, there are items you will not find in outlet stores, but for a brand like Burberry, the full-service US stores will usually be as cheap or cheaper than the full-service European store. Often, much cheaper. And this doesn't apply solely to luxury goods. I find brands like Gap and H&M to be significantly cheaper in the US than in Europe.

Personally, I would restrict my European shopping to items that are not readily available in the US. You won't find many of those items at a place like Burberry.

I don't believe cge is American based on language in the posts. I'm fascinated by all his/her posts. This is the person who was concerned about the cost of a Rome metro ticket. Now we're into buying Burberry and whether there are limits on goods purchased in the LV and Gucci stores. Quite an assortment of questions!

cge Jun 26th, 2008 08:17 AM

There's no "L" in Burberry

ekscrunchy Jun 26th, 2008 10:08 AM

Some live to eat, some eat to shop. Or something like that..

I think someone (cge) is having a grand time pulling your collective legs.

Or maybe I'm just suspicious when I pull up their recent posts. (If so, nevermind).

In a related vein, is there anywhere I can get a good deal on Clavin Klien Klothing?
