ha ha so funny: "Everything in Athens is very old. I just can't understand why don't they level the whole city and built a New Athens."
Acropolis is very very old indeed! Maybe we should 'level that down' as well?!! Would that satisfy you?
Anyway, Chrissem, as an athenian i can understand we Athens seems so horrible to tourists. Athens is not a city that you'll like in a 2 days visit. You won't be able to appreciate or understand the feeling and the vibe of the city unless you'll come with an open mind. But please...do come, even for a while.. then you'll have an opinion of your own!

I have been to Athens three times. Twenty years ago, pollution unbelievable, accosted in a sexual manner whilst crossing a road and had a bout of food poisoning. Ten years ago, pollution still bad and prices up. Last year, pollution dreadful, unbelievably hot and the plaka was a touristic disaster. The antiquities and sites in Athens are the draw card and I love all things Greek but Athens for me, three strikes and I'm out!

I am sad to see that you failed the irony of my first post. Western civilization owns so much to Greeks and Athenians in particular that I feel sorry for a a person who doesn't understand this as the author of the original post seems to be.

ChatNoir dear I have no patience for you at all when you can't accept things at face value.
I'm curious as to how I could've written my lengthy report on my recent trip to Spain without travellng in Europe, or is Spain not Europe?

Actually, Mkingdom, many people file false information/trip reports on this forum. Why they do it is beyond me. Maybe for attention? I am NOT saying that your report on Barcelona is false. However, it was so PRENTENTIOUS and OBNOXIOUS that many here probably think you made the whole thing up by doing a google search.
Athens is not for everyone. I have been twice and will probably never return. It a city for people who can find fun and excitement using their imagination. I find the Greek islands far more fascinating, especially HYDRA.
The best things about Athens are the people, food and nightlife.
