Of course it worked! But I'm afraid to spend time on the other post and be disappointed. Think I'll just go watch Desperate Housewives.

LoveItaly Nov 28th, 2004 05:09 PM

Actually Fodors has been acting up again these last couple of hours.

And oh yes, Housewifes, almost forgot they are on tonight. Fun show!

rex Nov 28th, 2004 05:17 PM

mucho mucho trouble

but "back", copy and paste still seems to save having to re-type...

Best wishes,

Rex

Here's a new one. I've been on the site several times today without any problems. A few minutes ago when I tried to type a reply on a thread, I had to log in, even though my name was clearly in the upper left hand corner of the screen, indicating that I was already logged in! Go figure....

LoveItaly Nov 28th, 2004 07:44 PM

Betsy, that happened to me at least 4 times tonight. Go figure!!! Frustrating and annoying. Oh well, guess that by tomorrow perhaps all the glitches will be taken care of. I say with fingers crossed.

rex Nov 29th, 2004 06:18 AM

Betsy,

This is the same problem described on http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34542285 - - and must surely have to do with difficulty in the software's ability to erad a cookie from your computer.

The "Phantom" at Fodors has alluded to ColdFusion problems that are responsible. They are aware and working on it.

Check the "Message from Fodors.com" line above the "Answer Today's Trivia Quiz" line. ((C))

"We are aware of some downtime you may have experienced on the forums lately. We are currently working on the problem and as always, we are doing our best to prevent future disruptions. We hope that this has not caused any inconvenience to you.

Thank you for your patience and we look forward to your posts."

Not to sound like the boy who cried "There's no wolf", but, should I take the fact that there aren't any complaints as indication that the problems have decreased, or is it that we've all simply grown tired of complaining and accepted the sorry state of things?

From my end, the logs look much less polluted with errors, the way that they were. (Right after the upgrade, we first had several errors about "Too many open files" to "ORA-12154" to the macromedia driver not accepting the jdbc connector. When this thread was posted, the problem was that I switched from the Oracle driver to the macromedia driver, and the macromedia driver has a 4K limit on text fields. (Hence all the dropped posts that were long...)

Anyhoo. I hope things are better, but, if they aren't, I'm watching these threads... (As are others...) and, your complaints don't fall on deaf ears... For now tho, I'd like to know that re-logging in and dropped posts have either stopped or at least been significantly reduced.

Thanks!

Thanks, POTF! It's always nice to know that someone's listening out there in cyberspace. As an N=1, I can report that I haven't had to relog-in at all in the past two days, in contrast to the days prior. Keep up the good work there at HQ.

rex Dec 2nd, 2004 07:27 PM

Ditto to Betsy's message...

And I also appreciate the touching base with us, as she does...

I was going to post to say Thanks- no probs for the last few days...and on my first attempt got the "we're frantically working on" page. However, it must have been a tiny error becuase a second click fixed it.

The technology of this boggles my mind and, after sites like Google and Yahoo you must have one of the most heavily trafficked sites in the world, no?

This, OTOH is now the fourthe attempt to actually make the answer post:(

Had a JRA(?) Server Error message about 30 minutes ago. For this one I did not do a screen capture. I save a few for my guys here at the ofc.

<<you must have one of the most heavily trafficked sites in the world, no?>>

Ummm... that's a pretty "traveler-o-centric" speculation, don't you think, Sheila?

I'd be surprised if it's in the top 1000. Of which, probably several hundred are sex-related.

Interestingly enough, a list of the top 50 web hosting sites contains about 47 names that are completely unknown to me - - http://www.hostcount.com/tophosts.htm

Hi POTF, thought I would respond since I started this thread.

Today Fodors seems to be working great. Yesterday was iffy at times and than impossible.

Thanks for posting and keeping us abreast of what is going on. Take care.

FainaAgain Dec 3rd, 2004 12:16 PM

Ha ha, we are not the kind of crowd who can get tired of complaining :) It's the website works better. I don't have to re-log-in for the next few days. Opening of the forums is faster. Preview works. The site is back to being use-able :)

FainaAgain Dec 3rd, 2004 03:50 PM

I tried to copy and post a URL from one packing thread to another, and the right URL comes up only if I click on "post reply". Is that right?

I had to open the post, click on "post reply" Ctrl-C the address, click on the "back" arrow to go back to the European board, open another post, Ctrl-V the URL of the first post. Is there an easier way?

rex Dec 3rd, 2004 05:23 PM

This doesn't make sense, Faina.

LoveItaly Dec 3rd, 2004 06:18 PM

Well I have had posting a couple of times tonight which doesn't make sense either. Only on a couple of threads. All others work great. Sooo - what is the problem?
