Based on the discussion on this thread, I think it's now up to zaksgrandma to decide for himself or herself if air conditioning is needed.

I don't need AC (don't have it at home, Castellon, Spain) but when I go to hotels if the rooms are very small and I share with a friend...I prefer to book a room with AC in summer, because I don't know if I will be able to open the window (in some city hotels you can't !) and it makes me a bit uncomfortable..but it's not only because the heat, I think.

I know what you mean, noseplugs are definitively needed to survive. I'm feeling the same every morning in the subway. ;-)

You got it right, logos ;)

It is certainly NOT NECESSARY. Nor is a bed; you can always sleep on the floor. And you don't really need a private bath, as one down the hall will do. And why have a closet or a hook to hang your clothes when you could just as easily leave them in the suitcase? Locks on the door are a waste -- it's doubtful anyone will try to come in while you're there.
No, AC is not NECESSARY. But if you like to be comfortable when you travel it is sure nice. |
The descriptions of May 2005 took me back. We were in Paris in late April that year and got our faces sunburned just walking around and taking a Seine boat ride. We slept with the window open since it looked over a roof and courtyard.
In Alaska however, we sleep with the window open when it's -10. |
I was in paris this past june and I was cold lol. Rainy as well. But like they say you never know. Thank god it cleared up when I went to versailles

Need or Want? How much time do you spend in the room? What is the cost difference. If its hot outside do you just stay in your room? Much urban activity is in the evening and early night avoiding the daily heat. Siesta time? Check the article in Atlantic about improved air conditioners.
