Is a week too long in Lisbon too long?

Hi everybody,

I'm planning my 2009 summer trip and I'm considering a few places to combine with a week in Barcelona (Besides Lisbon, Prague would be the other option). Do you guys consider that a week in Lisbon is too long? I can see that it's a small city but there seem to be a lot of day trip options and beaches nearby. I'm interested in strolling, religious sites and time of the beach. Do you have any lodging recommendations? I can't spend more than 100 Euros for a double room with breakfast.

Thanks!

I certainly do not consider one week in Lisbon too long. There is so much to do. Day trips to the coastal areas are very easy with public transportation and the cost to get there very reasonable.

If you are interested in an apartment instead of a hotel, we rented a lovely one right in the center of the Chiado a trendy, wonderful neighborhood.

The owner is great to deal with , very hands on. I would consider this apartment a four star accomodation.

A week is Lisbon is not nearly enough, especially if you want to daytrip to Cascais/Estoril, Fatima, etc. to see beaches and churches.

We spent nine days in Lisbon and didn't do everything we had hoped to do..lots of day trip options, nice city.

Hey everybody,

Thanks for your advice. Lisbon certainly looks small, but I think I'm going to fo it. I like all the day trip options along with easy beach breaks available nearby.

This is the itinerary I have:

day01: arrival
day02: Alfama & Baixa
day03: Chiado & Bairro Alto
day04: Belém
day05, day06 & day07: day trips.

Thanks for the apartmente link, Sher. I hadn't thought of that.

Hi. I also agree that a week is great. We spent a week in Lisbon without even doing many day trips (just Sintra). We had just spent another week (with a car) traveling to other parts of Portugal so didn't need that many day trips. We were not at all bored and could have used more time. I highly recommend Obidos though as a day trip (we spent 2 nights but you can do it by public trans from Lisbon, only about an hour away).

For a hotel I can recommend Residencial Florescente www.residencialflorescente.com
In July 2006 it was 70€ night double. These are the notes I made to myself about it: "Great hotel, great location, great price. Steps from Placa Restauradores and Rossio, , situated on a quiet pedestrian street that runs parallel to the famous Restauradores Square and even though there are tons of restaurants and it has a nice lively feel, it was pretty quiet at night, especially with windows closed and AC on. There is a metro station only 50 metres away. Rooms were average size, bathroom small but spotlessly clean. Lobby and reception were very recently redone and very nice, hallways were all tiled. Internet access on your own computer throughout the hotel was free, and for 10 cents a minute there was a computer in lobby you could use."
