Is a room with a view worth the extra $$
I am looking into the following hotels in Venice: Pensione Accademia, La Calcina and Locanda Sturion.
I know it's our 25th wedding anniversary, but we will staying in Italy for 12 days or so. Is a room with a view worth the extra money? Should I splurge when I hit the Lake region instead?

Thanks,
Denise

Denise,
Happy Anniversary!! I know it's crazy, but the first thing I do when I check-in a room is run to the window and check the view. I have moved rooms because the view was so depressing. If I went to Venice I would want a charming view of the square or the canal. The Lake district demands a room with a view. pay up..you wont be sorry. Have fun!! Wendy.
Denise,
Whenever possible go for a room with a view. I say this, because when offered the option, my first thought is "how often do I visit here?" and unless it's a few times a year, I want a view I'll remember until the next trip to the same locale, if there is one.

At Locanda Sturion, my own Venetian favorite, their breakfast room overlooks the Grand Canal, in addition to some of the guest rooms doing the same.
Buon Viaggio,
BC

Happy 25th!!
I'd go for the room with a view in Venice (it's my FAVORITE city!!!) and then perhaps economize at another city with less atmosphere, or cut back some other way.
I agree with the previous poster, the first thing we do is run to the window and check the view.
Have a great trip!!!!

The first thing in the morning when you open the curtains (or leave them open and step up to the window or stay in bed and look over your feet) and you see the Grand Canal, you will know why you paid a little more for a view.

If you are there you might as well see it the first thing in the morning and the last thing at night. What could be more romantic on you anniversary than toasting the view in your jammies?

You all made great points, especially book chick when she said "how often will I be there". I am awaiting to hear from the Accademia. I have to go back and check La Calcina because I didn't see any negatives the last time I checked.

Thanks again,
Denise
