Is a full day Highlands trip from Edinburgh a priority?
An active senior couple flying to Edinburgh from NY in late March and staying for 3 1/2 days before heading to London. First time there, we want to see many major sites, perhaps add a food tour and surely shop a bit. Is a full day trip to the highly regarded Highlands a priority, or given our limited time, something we'll have to skip?
Thanks.
Thanks.

It does't matter what other people think, do YOU want to see the highlands? It has been a priority of mine on 2 trips to Scotland, but I love the outdoors.
I agree that a Rabbies tour would be a good choice if you decide to go.

Unless I'm mistaken, it's a 2-3 hour ride away... That's 4-6 hours of driving to/from... We do want to see it, but given our limited time presents a bit of a dilemma. Perhaps we'll wait til we get there and hopefully be able to join a tour.

Rabbies does have one day tours to The Highlands. I also recommend them.

March is not a busy time so you should be able to book Rabbies at close to the last minute. I'd definitely 100% (100%) wait until you are in Edinburgh. . . . March can be nice-ish, barely OK . . . or full on winter with sleet blowing sideways. I would not want to take a tour when you can't even see out of the van. Plus if you are flying in long haul you'll likely be a bit jet lagged so won't have as much time in Edinburgh as you may think.
If you don't take a Rabies tour into the Highlands, you can always take the short train ride to Stirling. The castle is magnificent - and while it isn't IN the Highlands the views towards the Highlands from the castle walls are panoramic / amazing.
