is 7 days enough for Rome, Flo., Ven
We are planning a trip to Europe in Feb. There are 4 adults traveling together. Would like to see Rome, Florence, and Venice. Is this too much for 7 days?

Tell us a little more. Are you speaking of 7 nights total? Were you planning to take the train or drive? (With four of you I would heartily suggest getting a car and spending one night in Tuscany, say San Gimagnano, for another whole perspective on Italy). Are you flying in and out of Rome or into Rome and out of Venice or do you need to return to starting point?

Actually flying into Rome, and out of London in order to visit son, who's in school there. Have to hit London, but could change Rome...2 of us have been there, 2 have not but would like to see it if at all possible.Train and car decisions not made yet...we like to travel by the seat of our pants, so planning is new to us!

7 days for each city would be better. I'm usually all for crammin in as much as possible with whatever time you have, but this is overdoing it, especially if this is a 1st time trip to the cities. Just think that it is 3 hours just to travel between each of the cities, then you may have to add on time to buy tickets and wait at the train station, or stop on the road for bathroom or food, etc., and then get to your actual hotel - half a day is already shot. I suggest doing only 2 of the 3 cities - or just Florence area or Rome even.

Having spent a lot of time in all these cities, this summer we were joined by a couple of friends on their first trip to Italy. We planned 3 nights in
Rome, 1 night in Florence, and 3 nights in Venice, traveling by train (with prebooked tickets). Their flight to Rome got aborted in Boston overnight, so Rome was reduced to only 2 nights, but they were thoroughly satisfied with what we did. Since we arrived by train in Florence before noon, our full afternoon and evening plus all the next morning before leaving for Venice was ample for Florence, although our friends are not into a lot of museums and we only did the Academia for David.
Of course it is always nicer to spend a week or more in any given place, but since your time is so limited I think your plan to do all three cities is great! Of course your visits won't be in depth, but you will have a great time. Prebooking your hotels and trains or renting a car avoids the problem mentioned above about losing a lot of time allowing for such things. If you don't want to overnight in the countryside, I might retract my earlier statement about renting a car and sticking to the trains as we did, since it will save you a lot of time. The trains will take you right to the center of the cities and you won't lose time to find your way, although it may cost a little more for 4 train tickets than it would to rent a car.
