Is $687 a good price for airfare to Paris from Chicago in October?
We are going to Paris from Chicago this October. The cheapest fare I have found is AA for $677 taxes included. Does anyone think it will get cheaper? Do certain airlines have annual sales to Europe at the same time every year?
That seems like a decent fare. We got fares in the low-mid 700s from Kansas City (through Chicago) for September on bestfares.com, which was far lower than any other option we could find.
You might also check AirFrance -- I saw good fares for Oct - March, but you would have to put in your exact dates to see just how good they would be for you. |
..and www.onetravel.com and www.itasoftware.com?
Try Air France. They have just announced some low fares, but I'm not sure of the cost from Chicago. From NYC is about $550.
Just for comparison sake, and to see if I should whip myself with a big dose of buyer's remorse, I plugged in our dates in September and got the following fares for flights with only one stop:
kayak: $865 mobissimo: $865 onetravel: $1152 itasoftware: $1142 The rate we got by booking via bestfares was more than $100 less per adult ticket, (around $200 less for the kids which adds up with four of us going). The flights are AA through Chicago. |
I don't think it's the best because from SFO to CDG in mid-October with that Air France promotion going on until the 22nd it costs mid-$700's roundtrip. Even better is if you can take advantage of visiting another European city for $60 more depending on your dates.
Unfortunately, we can't wait until the 15th...the start of the Air France sale. That would have been cheaper. Is anyone aware of any other airline that has periodic sales like AF?
Try British Midlands (flybmi.com). They fly Chicago to London, and then London to Paris. I just checked random dates in October and they were showing RT fares from Chicago to London for as low as $468. Then they have incredibly cheap flights to Paris. When you put in your dates of travel you can find cheaper fares by checking the "flexible with dates" box.
I think that's a very good price - You undoubtedly can find something less if you look hard enough, but I think you'll drive yourself crazy trying to find something cheaper. I'd by the tix and enjoy a good night slumber. People have definitely made that trip for more. BUT . . . I did get my best airfare atl-CDG by checking the Air France website twice/week.

Beware that $677 does not include earphones and wine with dinner.
I just booked 2 tickets from Atlanta thru Chicago to Paris/Charles DeGaulle on American through Best Travel Store for $612 each R/T
I meant to add that my flight is in Oct.
Laidback: When I went to the Travel Store, I found various sites to go to. Which did you use to get that price? Did it include taxes?
I would say no. But only because I got airfare to paris from sfo for 400 bucks for december.
I think i would wait at least until 3 or so months before october. the gas prices could go down, there could be sales, etc. I would hold off for now...the price seems a bit too steep. |
Gerry,
I used "Best Travel Store" www.bt-store.com |
I'd grab that fare NOW. ORD is my departure airport, and I've only had one fare cheaper than that in December.
I'd be happy to pay that. Prices may go lower, but with fuel costs and full planes, I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Thanks for sharing that site, LaidBack!
I found a $300 savings for a potential trip to Italy - via London. The return includes an overnight - but I as able to get the Holiday Inn at Gatwick on points. I'm so excited! |
Ended up booking tickets on American non-stop from Chicago to Paris for $630 total through www.flycheapabroad.com. I thought that was pretty good.
