Is 1 hr 10 minutes enough time to make our connection at CDG?
 

In August we are booked with Delta to fly from Milan back to the East Coast. We have an hour and 10 minute layover in CDG before flying to Atlanta. In checking "my trip" I found red underlining and exclamation points saiying i might not be able to make the connection. Delta has not emailed me about the flight change and in checking their scheduling it appears the schedule is the same as when I booked it. So why are they now claiming that's not enough time for connection?

IMHO your chance of making it is small and that of your luggage even smaller.

I would contact Delta immediately and have them rearrange your flights (flights out of Milan are very frequently late) and you might have way less time than you think.

I agree that is really tight. You will have to ride a bus to change terminals and clear passport control. We just made a CDG connection (from Milan to Chicago). We hustled, had no line at passport control and it still took 45 minutes.

We made a 55 minute connection in 75 minutes because our flight arrived early. But the only reason we even had that was we were rerouted through CDG when our original flight was canceled and we just wanted to get to our destination.

Our bags evidently wandered off to Paris for some sightseeing because they didn't make the connection. Dunno how they paid for the side trip or got back to the airport for the next flight and connection.

We'd NEVER opt for that small of a window on an international connection and especially not in CDG.

Assuming your flight from Milan is on Air France, you'll arrive at 2F. Your Delta flight will depart from 2E which is right across from 2F. There's no need to get on a bus. You'll need to go through passport control but not security. One hour and 10 minutes is a legal connection and since you said there hasn't been a schedule change, I don't believe Delta will make any changes for you free of charge.

Looking at the CDG departure board, the Delta flights to ATL seem to leave either Hall M or Hall L on terminal 2E. While you do not need to take a bus from 2F to 2E, you ride a tram from 2E Hall K to get to 2E Hall L and Hall M.

Irrespective of the status of the connection, this was always a risky connection. The booking engines can offer unreasonably short layovers at sprawling airports like CDG. Unfortunately, it is up to the buyer to accept or reject the itinerary based on how much risk the buyer is willing to take even if the connection would be made "eventually" at carrier's expense.

You can also walk directly from 2F to the L gates at 2E. You can check the departure gate of your onward flight upon deplaning at 2F. You do need to take the tram to get to the M gates but the ride is very short, around one minute between stations. Which ATL flight are you on? The M gates are only used in the morning and early afternoon.

I've made connections of an hour or less at CDG, it is possible. Sounds like they just have some warning system in their computer, it may not have changed at all. Meaning you can probably still book that ticket, they will allow it. I don't remember any airline not allowing me to book tickets that show up on their website for a route, with even as small as about a 45 minute layover in many airports (including European ones). I don't choose the default, I choose the various connections myself to pick one that gives me more leeway, if I can.

Delta even has a nonstop from Milan to ATL, surprised you didn't book that and you could avoid all this stuff. In fact, I can't even get Delta to show flights from MXP routing through CDG, they only want to route through JFK or FCO, or nonstop.

If you are on AF/DL Skyteam flights, it is their responsibility to take care of you and hustle you along. They do this with thousands of passengers every day.

Are you actually originating from Naples or Milan? In your other thread, you said Naples in which case there's only one AF flight a day and only one possible connection which is AF1179 arriving at 3:05pm connecting to DL29 at 4:10pm. If that's the case, the plus side is that you won't need to go to M gates cause they shut down around 2pm. The downside is that you're connecting to the last flight of the day to ATL.

Well, that would explain it, it must be from Naples, not Milan. And in that case, as noted, there is only one flight that day on Air France to CDG, so there is no choice. So if you don't make it, you'd have to stay overnight as there is no other flight to ATL after 4:10 pm on Delta.

So this was choosing an airport where there was only one flight and connection available, looks like.

The other way to look at it… if you misconnect, you get to spend 24 hours in Paris!

Not necessarily. Some airlines will put you on any partner operated flight (or pay only for an airport hotel..yuck).

Chances are you won't miss the connection, and your luggage will be just fine. CDG is well known for escorting connecting passengers, and they often hold the plane for those passengers. They make up the delay time in the air.

For many years Air France was my preferred airline. Then I decided I hate CDG for connections.

I've flown the Delta MXP to ATL on numerous occasions. Never by choice. I absolutely despise ATL. The last time I did this route, my Delta flight was delayed by 1 hour and 30 minutes. First, late passengers from a connecting flight. Then their late luggage. And finally maintenance issues. It was a trifecta comedy. My flight arrived in the U.S. only 25 minutes late.
