Irish local sports

I would greatly appreciate hearing from some of you on-site Irish about what local sporting events we might be able to see in the evenings between June 21 and 28. I'm thinking the teenage grandsons might enjoy seeing something different from American football and basketball. If I'm not mistaken, Irish schools will still be in session at that time.

Gaelic football and hurling are probably what you are looking for.

Also on Saturday 27th in the afternoon, the British & Irish Lions will be taking on South Africa at Rugby. Unfortunately it'll be in South Africa but all pubs and clubs in Ireland should be showing the match and the atmosphere should be pretty good as there are quite a few Irish representing the Lions.

Thanks, Geordie. Probably my best bet is to ask the B&B host/hostess if there is anything local going on. I wager that the gossoons will enjoy the rugby match. We have a free evening on the 27th just before departing on the 28th.

http://www.gaa.ie/ has details of matches for Gaelic games, plus links to local clubs and associations. Also local newspapers carry details of forthcoming matches.

Thank you, Alec. We should be able to find something, if we aren't too exhausted from touring.

The British/Irish vs. South Africa rugby match should probably be a lot of fun, especially if you are in the Dublin area. Leinster (pronounced "LEN-ster"; the province of eastern Ireland, including Dublin) just won the Heineken Cup last week, which is the European championship for rugby. So rugby fervor should still be pretty high.

We are flying into Dublin so that might be a possibility, tdyls. Thanks for the heads-up.
