Irish Banquets Worthwhile?
We are taking our mother to Ireland this summer. We thought she would enjoy one of the banquets, Knappoque, Bunratty, or in Killarney. Are any of these worthwhile? Which is best? Thanks so much.

I have never been but I could see someone older enjoying. My mothers friends enjoyed bunratty. I would look online/guidebooks for reviews I am sure some stand above others.
epinions.com perhaps? they review a lot. |
I have only been to the one at Bunratty. I thought it was going to be very cheesy and touristy but it was quite nice and fun. We had a great time also meeting people from other countries and someone from my home state (Florida). I was 18 when I went (1991) if that helps.

The Bunratty banquet was great fun. When you arrive at the castle, you can meander through the old village then go into the castle - requires climbing a narrow stone spiral staircase to the top "great room" where they put on a program and show you the kitchens used in medieval times. Then you go down to another area where they serve the banquet with meade! at communal tables (you eat with your hands) and another presentation. You'll enjoy it. Plus, across the narrow walkway is Dirty Nellies - the oldest pub in Ireland.

Have done the Bunratty twice over the years and enjoyed both times. As noted above it is also nice to stroll the grounds.
