Anyone ever stay there?

I have and found it to be charming and warm. I am thrilled to see that they have won another award. The Fogartys are delightful people, who genuinely care about their guests and are dedicated to making sure that your Irish experience is top-notch. I think they even have wireless internet access now for all of their guests.

Breakfast is absolutely delicious and the view you have of the Boyne has no paralell. If you stay for longer than just an overnight, make sure you spend some time in the gardens in the back. It makes for a very restful afternoon or morning.

We stayed there this past summer and I was disappointed.I spent considerale time researching B&B's. I booked our room nearly six months in advance and yet the room we got was terribly cramped, the bed uncomfortable, the bathroom musty, shower stall had a lot of mildew and the towels were threadbare.

Upon our arrival I was placed in what I'll call a sitting room, the door was shut and Shelia disappeared with husband to get luggage etc. I sat there for some time feeling like a naughty child banished from the adult world. I decided it was a ridiculous situation and went to our room. We had been told it was downstairs. I never discovered why I was put there and abandoned. The house seemed to be almost clastrophobic with Victorian 'clutter'. I did check out several of the other rooms(downstairs) as they were vacant for one of the two nights we were there. They were considerably nicer than ours. No price difference.

When I inquired about eating places I was told there was a Chinese Pub a couple of miles down the road. Now what is a Chinese Pub? Frankly I didn't want to find out.

On the positive side,we were served one of the best breakfasts in Ireland. I would not stay there again. I'll certainly grant them the breakfast award but not the Best B&B.

If you are ever in Clifden I would recommend the Quay House. It was everything I expected, even more. They( Paddy & Julia) too have received many awards.

The Quay House in Clifden was the highlight of our Irish visit several years ago. I am glad someone else enjoyed their hospitality just as much.
We hope to stay again..one day.

Thanks for the replies. Historytraveler, It seems you got the worst room at Killyon. Chinese Pub? LOL! Sounds like a joke.
