Hey Ireland lovers, what's some good movies with an Ireland vibe, other than Waking Ned Devine and The Quiet Man? I've got the IRL DT's. Also, my PBS station dropped Ballykissangel! The cads!

The BBC axed Ballykissangel about a year ago so no more episodes, I'm afraid!<BR><BR>Other Irish films - "The Commitments", obviously! There's also "The Van" - the second book in Roddy Doyle's trilogy.

<BR>Two movies come to mind:<BR>The Matchmaker with Janene Garafalo. Fabulous Scenery cute story<BR>In the Name of the Father with Aidan Quinn and James Caan.<BR>Fabulous Scenery, very sad story

Maeve Binchey's books are on CDs and on tape. They are read by an Irish actress and have a real flavor of Ireland. They are very light and good for listening while driving.

I agree about The Matchmaker! My heart aches for Ireland when I see that movie!

The beach scene in Ryan's Daughter was filmed on Slea Head Drive.

BBC America still shows BallyK, along with Father Ted.<BR><BR>Neither James Caan or Aidan Quinn were in "In the Name of the Father". The Secret of Roan Irish..or something like that, and Circle of Friends (M. Binchy book turned into movie). Meryl Streep was in one abut 5 sisters, can't remember the title. Sorry not much more help.

Also The Field (depressing I thought). One mentioned earlier is actually The Secret of Roan Inish.

Meryl Streep was in "Dancing at Luna..." can't spell the last word. Sounds like Luna-sa.

I believe it's just "War of the Buttons", Ann, I had that movie recommended to me by a friend when I mentioned the trip I am taking and I wanted to rent it when you refreshed my memory of the name... something buttons. This isn't exactly a theater movie, but the video "Over Ireland" helps when I'm feeling the pangs of being so far away from Eire.

how about Far and Away? I know, an American movie, but partially filmed in Ireland.<BR><BR>I haven't seen it, but plan to....

The Aidan Quinn/James Caan movie is "This is My Father." <BR><BR>"Into the West" is a very good one.<BR><BR>"Frankie Starlight" partly takes place in Dublin and is well worth seeing.<BR><BR>FYI - Waking Ned Devine wasn't filmed in Ireland, but on the Isle of Man.<BR><BR>The only way to get over the Ireland DT's is to start planning another trip back to Ireland. I've had the same affliction for 25 years. Do you start to cry when the plan starts to descend over the green fields? If so, you're certified. <BR>I miss Ballykissangel too.

Oh yes, how could I forget? "This is My Song" has a wonderful portion that is filmed in Ireland and the movie is very enjoyable. I love the Ireland scenes. <BR><BR>Also, you MUST read "McCarthy's Bar." It is the funniest and best book about Ireland that I've ever read. It helps if you've been there before you read it.<BR>

Falling for a Dancer is a book turned into something like a 4 hr movie. The book was excellent, but I haven't caught all of the movie yet. The able channel WE (women's entertainment?) shows it sometimes. And, if you're up for it, Nora Roberts writes about Ireland pretty often. She has a Born in ... series that's based in the southwest. I leave in a week and I don't want to come back!
