Ireland: What time does it get dark?
Hello all,
I'll be doing the whirlwind driving tour (Dublin to Shannon in 48 hours) March 29-30, and I want to know how many hours of daylight I'll have. Anybody have a clue what time it gets dark in SW Ireland about then? Also, what time does the sun come up? I heard daylight saving starts over Easter, the day before. So, I'll need to figure that in. Thanks Everybody, Leslie |

Someone, somewhere on this site once posted this website:
www.sunrisesunset.com It's not all that specific, but it might help. |
sunrisesunset.com will print a calendar for a month's solar days at a time. With lunar phases if you wish.
(That was the 29th I posted above. The 30th is 7:03 - 19:53.) |
Easter Sunday (27 Mar) the EU goes on daylight saving time (summer time). So sunrise will be a little later and evenings will be a little longer.
Ireland is pretty far north (54 deg N) so summer days are long. Figure on about 20:00 (8:00 PM) for sunset the 1st of April. Don't start your drive too early: you might encounter frost and that could be slick - as if you didn't have enough to worry about. |
Oddly, it also gets dark there from about 4pm to 530 pm every afternoon. Not sure why.

Actually, the sun will rise on the 26th at 6:12, and on the 27th at 7:10. From this, it can be inferred that DST is already figured into the times I originally gave:
Mar 29 7:05 - 19:52 Mar 30 7:03 - 19:53 So you'll have 13 hours of daylight - but don't push it, okay? |
All times are GMT -8. The time now is 09:13 PM. |
