Ireland weather in May??

We will be going to Shannon< Ireland, May 16-25,00 and want to know how to pack for the weather. We went last year in April and used a jacket each day. Is May that much warmer? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Janice Garrison

Jancie,
The weather in Ireland is very unpredictable. Last week floods and cold and miserable, today glorious sunshine and a sunburn warning, next week snow or subtopical temps ? who knows. Generally it is mild with temps in the region 11-14 degrees celius with the chance of rain but unlikely to be very cold or wet. Check out the weather predictions on www.ireland.com or similar sites and enjoy your trip,
Cathy

Janice: I was there in mid-July a few years ago -- we wore shorts the first day comfortably, the next day "stubbornly" and by the 3rd went to long pants. I also bought a wool sweater that trip that I wore each day and loved, and I have only been able to tolerate its warmth here in Virginia a few times, and those were nasty cold winter days. Take the jacket! Maybe it will be like carrying an umbrella, and you'll have warm weather the whole time!

Janice.. My wife and I just returned from Ireland about two weeks ago. We had 5 days of rain...temperatures between 38 and 55 degrees fahrenheit. Only minutes of sun. We had several people tell us to prepare for 4 seasons in the same day! I now totally believe them. It is no wonder that Ireland is called The Emerald Isle! In spite of the weird weather we had a wonderful time in a charming country!

We've visited Ireland twice in May and had good weather both times(around 60 deg.).Whenever we go to Ireland we take a heavy sweater and a Gortex wind breaker, use both on an ugly day or just the Gortex in the rain.Along with a fold up umbrella and those two items you should be well covered for the month of May(pun intended).Have a great trip !!

Dear Janice:
We just returned from 2 weeks in Ireland & made use of all kinds of clothing we'd packed - rain gear, jackets, short sleeves. In other words, their weather is really varied. When we first arrived, we had lots of rain &, on 1 day in particular, bone chilling wind. Our last few days in Dublin were lovely & (for Ireland) warm. However, all the Dubliners we met insisted it was most unusual to have so many days of sunshine & warmth.
So - pack for every kind of weather contingency (the layered look is the best way to go).
Susan

Janice,
as you can see from previous potsings of recent visitiors the weather is really varied - I am currently sporting a tanned look after a week or more of Mediterran weather but according to the weather forecasts and the wise old men the weather is going to break with more rain and wind in the coming week or so, so do bring rain gear. One other thing if you are planning to visit Newgrange it is booked out for official tours,
Post if you have any more queries,

cathy
