We are going to Ireland this month. Please advise what clothing (weather wise) should be taken. Is the weather cold/chilly during August? Thanks.

its a bit grey and raining at the moment as I look out the window. But tomorrow it could be 30 degrees with blue skies. 4 seasons in one day are usual in Ireland. Ireland being the first land mass facing the Atlantic Ocean and all the weather fronts that come our way, gets varied weather from day to day, some times from hour to hour.

Sorry all not very helpful - in August we usually get warm (high teens to low twenties Celcius), humid days. The best advise, as given on this board is to dress in layers, so that you can put on or take of a layer as the weather dictates.

It depends where you are coming from or what the weather is like where you are !
We have had a record Summer. Very little rain, balmy nights, etc. However, it could change in the morning. At this time of year change could mean rain and/or colder nights and evenings. Light rainproof jacket or coat is always a good idea. Fleece for nighttime (even on what we consider to be balmy nights!) light trousers; shorts, etc.

I have a lovely series of photos of my kids (7 and 4 at the time) taken on an August day on Renvyle beach two years ago. Covered head to toe, then the windjacket comes off, then the sweatshirt/long sleeve T comes off, then the pants come off, then the T shirt comes off, and eventually they are in the water in their undies.

I second the idea of a fleece.

August is usually not as cool as the rest of the year (60's, maybe up to low 70's) and dampish - but certainly not cold - unless you're out on the water in a boat.

you're probably already in ireland, so this response may come too late, however i'm presently in ireland, and have to say that i haven't had the weather experience described by others. my husband and i arrived on aug. 9 and have found the weather to be surprisingly cold and damp in most regions. i followed similar reviews when packing and found myself to be completely unprepared. since arriving, i have purchased 2 extra long sleeve t's and 2 very thick wool sweaters as well as a pashmina i have used as a scarf. it's true you need to layer, but we haven't experienced any especially warm days. on the warmest of days, i have worn a tank, long sleeve t and a scarf. we have had only 2 or 3 sunny days (which is probably common). we've been through dublin, counties wicklow, kerry--along the coast, down to dingle, etc. clare and limerick and have found the cool weather to be very consistent. according to several locals we've spoken to along the way the warm spell that ireland has experienced is over (and they said it was typically around 65-70 degrees F in most areas--not exactly what we might consider a heat wave!!) hope this helps when packing!!
